Give for Texans – Marcus’ Story

“I just want people to know how important donating is”

More than 25% of the community blood supply is used to help people battling cancer during rigorous treatments.

Kimberly Morado of Waxahachie shares her son’s personal fight and the gift of time provided by blood and platelet donors:

“My son, Marcus Morado, was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma in 2019 at the age of 17. He had a soft tissue tumor in his lower thigh. Marcus had surgery to remove the tumor, then had chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Marcus also needed blood transfusions and platelets during his treatment.

We thought Marcus won this battle. Several months after completing treatment, Marcus was diagnosed with stage four cancer in his lungs. The cancer had spread.

He went through more chemotherapy and more radiation. He again required blood transfusions and more platelets.

Marcus’ cancer eventually spread to many more of his organs. He passed away May 10, 2022 at the age of 20.

I just want people to know how important donating is, and how much we appreciate donors for helping our son.

Now my husband and I try to donate blood or platelets every month. Hopefully, we can help someone else.”
